So far this month, hackers have been a big problem in gaming:
Deus Ex's customer base was compromised
Battlefield: Heroes has been hacked
So the medium that some use as entertainment and/or escapism can now get your identity stolen.
I, at one point, had no problem with hacks in the gaming community. homebrew is a welcome addition for indie developers to get a chance to work with major products. However, this type of hacking is malicious, and although they are getting their point across buy hurting the big company, they are hurting the end user as well. this could negatively hurt the gaming industry by forcing the companies to focus more on security than gameplay. In a worse case scenario, there could be a second video game crash.
There could be some overreacting in these statements, but the hacking and stealing of customers' information needs to be stopped...
